Incredible history of young people who brought high end brand and hip hop culture together

Some time ago I have read an article about "crew" from New York who merged brand Polo Raph Lauren and hip hop culture on the World. That article is mostly interview with Thristin - one of the first members of the group.
First thing's first, the name of the group is Lo Life. It comes from last syllabe of word "Polo". It is not about low or something like that! When you "lived in Lo" it meant you are enthusiast of brand Polo Raph Lauren. In 80s and early 90s hip hop clothing was mostly about sport brands such as Nike, Adidas, Champion. Polo is very exclusive brand and very expensive but in ghettos and settlements black people haven't earn that much to easily buy these pieces. What was the solution was shoplifting expeditions to Saks and Bloomingdale’s. "Polo became our religion."
People from Lo were rocking that clothing in clubs, on the street. Tuey were getting photographed by people outside the culture for their incredible looks. Lo Life grew up bigger and bigger. The crew also was trying other brands such as Guess and Tommy Hilfiger but the king was only one.
It was all about connection of people - not a trend. What really inspired me is how brand of clothing changed streetwear in those days. Not a logo, not even quality of materials, but exclusivness. We can find in rap and hip hop environment the biggest progress in streetwear these days. The best example is Kanye West with shoes Yeezy - new but already legendary.
